This card is a great card for someone who has the ability to pay a balance in full every month. The annual fee for the card is $130, which can seem a little steep. Used correctly, though, the card can be well worth it. That $130 gets you into the American Express Buyer Rewards Program, one of the best rewards programs in the business. Its rewards cover things like travel and many entertainment events. There is also a program called Gold-Card Events, which gives cardholders access to exclusive events.

There are insurance benefits to the Preferred Rewards card as well. The card offers fraud protection for any unauthorized charges, which can be very helpful in the event of an identity theft. It also offers a Buyer's Assurance Plan that extends original manufacturers warranties by an additional year if the warranty is eligible in the U.S. The Purchase Protection Plan protects eligible purchases from accidental damage or theft for up to 90 days, and the Return Protection program even offers refunds up to $300 per item on purchases that merchants will not take back.

The Preferred Rewards Card is a good card to travel with, as well. American Express offers baggage insurance, a global assistance hotline, emergency check-in service that allows guests to check into their hotel even if the card has been stolen, and many other benefits that make the card very useful for globetrotters.

As stated, the card does carry an annual fee of $130 dollars, and a $35 fee for each additional card up to 5. Also, since it is a charge card and not a credit card, all charges made with the card must be paid in full when you receive your billing statement. As such, there are no interest fees listed. The Preferred Rewards Card is a good choice for someone who can afford to pay a balance in full every month in addition to the annual fee. If you have that ability and are looking for a card that will gain you significant rewards, the Preferred Rewards card could be a great choice.
