With the Brighter Planet Visa card, the rewards program allows you to support a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects in order to reduce your “carbon footprint”. In other words- your rewards can be used to help create carbon offsets for the things that can't be conserved.
The rewards program is unique to Brighter Planet Visa. For every one dollar you spend on your credit card, you'll earn 1 EarthSmart point. For every 1,000 points you earn, you will fund an estimated 1 ton of carbon offsets. What does this mean for the environment? A ton of carbon offsets is equivalent to providing electricity or heating or cooling your home for about a month; or close to the equivalent of taking your car off the road for 2,000 miles.
For new Brighter Planet Visa cardholders, you'll earn 50% more points (so 1.5 points for every dollar spent through December 2008; as well as 1,000 bonus points as soon as you make your first purchase with your card. The bonus points will be used to offset the creation and delivery of your credit card. If you'd like to receive paperless statements (via email); you can get another 1,000 bonus points.
